Meditation: How to Meditate: A Practical Guide to Making Friends with Your Mind Customer Reviews
:- 4.0 out of 5 stars from daveonbass -- Worthwhile read : Not sure why I was drawn to this particular book as my first thought when I look at the title is "I already know how to meditate", but I'm sure I was looking for another Pema Chodron book to read after finishing "Taking The Leap", so this was the one I went to. Great book, love her writing, I'll be looking for another one to add to the on deck circle as soon as I finish this review. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2015 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Frank G. Dunn -- Clear and Readable Presentation of Meditation Essentials : to anyone who wishes to get a firmer grasp, both intellectually and experientially, on meditation. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2017 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Sheryl A. Carlsen -- One of the best books on meditation : Few people have explained the process of meditation as detailed and from a practical acceptance of the difficulties in quieting the mind. Most people who talk about meditation just explain the logistics of meditation such as when, where and for how long to meditate. Rather than lecturing about the need to stop the wandering mind, the author breaks down the dynamics of the wandering mind. Then she encourages the meditator to accept it, not force it to change and suggests ways to work towards a settling calmness when the mind is ready. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2014 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Robin -- A must-read for understanding meditation : If starting a meditation practice seems daunting, this book is for you. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from kewlstuff33 -- Excellent book! : This book answered so many questions, and was even the catalyst for a life-changing epiphany. My meditation practice is much more consistent now, and I'm learning to stay in a meditative, curious mindset as I go about my day. I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with "doing it right", or anyone needing to learn how to make friends with themselves. This book is worth every penny! - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mike Fiink -- This is the one! : If you only buy one book on how to meditate this is the one to get! I am reading a lot of books on how to meditate to prepare for a class I would like to give. I think this book really gives usable instructions on how to develop a personal meditation practice. I recommend any of the many books and videos and CDs produced by Pema Chodron as an excellent source of information on Buddhism. Her books are well written, personal, highly readable and easily understood. When I am reading or listening to her I feel as though she is speaking to me personally. You can't go wrong here. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jon Anda -- Well said. : As someone long familiar with Buddhism but not yet over the hump in terms of a regular sitting practice, this is the book that (finally) got me over that hump. She writes clearly and cogently...in a way that makes you both understand her point but also curious to find your own truths in meditation. I finished the book and just thought...thanks. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from [name not found] -- You found it! Now buy it, read it and practice. : Wonderful book that paints a very easy picture to read on sitting still and breathing. While it might seem easy, there is a reason so many authors write about meditation. If you are going to read one book on the subject, you have come upon the one of the best. I wish there was a paperback version.. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2019 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Telemeter -- Straight to the heart of the matter : A very lucid, clearly written guide that resonated totally. The first few chapters are a straight forward guide to sitting correctly. The later ones cover what happens in meditation. Before I was meditating regularly these later chapters book would probably have seemed a bit flat as I did not have the experiences to compare. With the experience of meditating daily, the words here have full meaning. If you are thinking of starting meditation but unsure how..read this book and start a daily practise immediately! If you have some experience read this for affirmation that you are on the right path. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 1, 2014 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Simon Hall -- Insightful guide : ideas and explanations and I feel as though utilising these ideas have helped breathe new life into my meditating. Recommended for beginners, intermediate and experienced or those simply curious. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 21, 2020 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from dismayed customer -- That Amazon needs to rethink it's packaging process! : This is a great book - the stars are for the book. What really disappointed me was the packaging it came in. After all the media attention on the problems of plastic Amazon has incredibly decided to change it's packaging from cardboard which although sometimes superfluous is at least recyclable! This is not a one-off as I had also placed an order for another book and this too came in a plastic padded envelop! This move to plastic packaging will really make me think twice before placing an order again. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 21, 2019 )

- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Brian -- First Class Instructional Book : A well written, easy to read, guide on meditation. I've read it three times already and still find myself picking it up for reference. Enthralling. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 22, 2020 )
